Best photo-stable sunscreens in India which provide protection against UV rays

Best sunscreens in India

All the skin expert’s & beauty bloggers stress enough on the need of applying sunscreen & why one should not miss it. Some of them also come up with the products which suited their skin well & which didn’t. Real time experiences matter a lot no matter what different brands claim.

Along with skin friendly sunscreen formulation, its equally important to stress on the efficacy of the sunscreen. By efficacy I mean by its protection abilities from UVB & UVA rays. Their is no use of wearing a sunscreen if it has light weight formula & easy application but can’t protect your skin from both UVB & shorter/longer UVA rays.

Now you will say SPF & PA factor is there to ensure the same but if I talk about the reality then you should must know that SPF numbers are not always accurate. The reason is SPF rating process is not well standardized. This makes us more responsible towards our skin & we should definitely check the back label on the product packaging instead of the highlighted labels in front.

The most important active ingredients which decides a sunscreen efficacy are its UV filters. But the problem is ‘How will you able to understand such tough names of UV filters?”. Not to worry and go through this complete guide of understanding the sunscreen science and the name of the UV filters used in them. The other important ingredients which matters are presence of antioxidants & stabilizers used for a more stable sunscreen formulation.

Okay. Still confused? No issues. I have compiled this list of best sunscreens for you guys which are easily available in India & expected to protect you from both (long & short)UVA and UVB rays. I have made this list totally based on my ingredient analysis & I havn’t used all of these sunscreens.

Does these best photo-stable sunscreens ensure no tanning?

Absolutely No! Sunscreens help in preventing the long term damage & sun burn to your skin from harmful UV rays but that doesn’t mean you can stay in sun for longer hours wearing these. Tanning is caused by the excess production of melanin(a pigment which provides color to human skin) due to the skin ability of preventing itself from UV damage. Applying sunscreen ensures topical protection which lead to less melanin production & thus less tanning.

Obviously, you have to reapply these effective sunscreens every 3 hours (may not be as frequently) to ensure continuous protection if exposed to direct sun light. Along with this don’t forget to wear light color clothes, cover your face & wear glasses for increased protection. You can still get tanning while wearing these sunscreens if you are not applying atleast a coin size amount on your face & not reapplying it. But since these sunscreens contain photo-stable UV filters, they ensure less tanning & sunburn as compared to other sunscreens available in India.

Thumb rules to protect your skin from sunburn, tanning & ageing priority – wise

  • Avoid direct exposure to sun light completely (if possible) otherwise at least during peak hours (11.00 A.M – 4.00 P.M)
  • Wear light color clothes, sun glasses & hats to prevent tanning & sun burn.
  • Apply sunscreen liberally for additional protection even when you are staying at home with open windows (your skin is prone to UVA rays at that time too).
  • Re-apply sunscreen if direct exposure extends more than 3 hours.

Conclusion

As you can see from the downsides mentioned, almost all sunscreens could be pore clogging to your skin & the fatty acids present in them could trigger fungal acne on extremely compromised skin. So its recommended to do double cleansing using oils and foaming face wash at nigh time to get rid of all the sunscreen applied during day.

This list is totally based on my ingredients analysis and you have to buy and try the sunscreen in order to find the best pick which suits your skin in terms of texture, white cast & application easiness as well.

For a sunscreen to be a hit in your life, its suitability to your skin along with the efficacy of UV filters present in it matters the most. Do let me know if you have tried any of these sunscreens and how they have worked for your skin in terms of protection & application ?

If you want me to include your favorite sunscreen available in India in this best sunscreen list then please add in comments and I will add it if it passes the UV filter test based on its ingredients. Share your suggestions for best sunscreens and we can definitely chit chat on its efficacy & if it deserves to be in the list.
